Scholarship opportunity!

Partner dancing plays a huge role in folkloric dance. Male folkloric dancers are always in high demand. In an effort to attract the participation of new male folkloric dancers, Los Alegres Bailadores is offering a tuition discount to the first four, first-time male participants that enroll in the workshop. Enroll soon to take advantage of this limited opportunity.

·         Warm up techniques and their importance

·         Footwork, choreography and poise - the central skills involved in performance

·         Cultural framework, the musical and historical context for the dances from each

corresponding region, including background knowledge of costume and crafts used in

          each dance.

A two- week intensive dance workshop open to the public scheduled for July 15 – 26. The summer workshop will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church located in St. Paul. Los Alegres Bailadores is proud to welcome guest instructor Maestro Tizoc Fuentes Yaco and one of his top instructors from Instituto MIZOC of Mexico City.  These fast paced classes offer a unique learning experience and are the equivalent of months of instruction.

This workshop is open to the public.  All ages and levels of experience will are invited to participate.  Workshop participants will be grouped appropriately depending on ability.  Youth classes will be scheduled between 9am – 3pm each weekday, and young adult and adult classes will take place weekday evenings. The instruction will integrate three components essential to training well-rounded folkloric dancers:

Metropolitan Regional Arts Council: This activity is funded, in part, by appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the State’s general fund, and its arts and cultural heritage fund that was created by a vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
